Maybe you’re one of those people who just likes finding unique things when you go shopping online or offline. You pick up little curios here and there that just catch your eye. Or maybe you collect wallets as a hobby and you’re always looking out for new or unique wallets to buy and add to your collection? Whatever category of gatherer/collector or archivist of the odd you might fall into you’re going to love the toast wallet just because it’s such an utterly strange thing for any company to make. But the bizarre thing is that its unique strangeness is what makes it so appealing to anyone who sees it.

So what is the toast wallet? Well without tumbling into a massive case of stating the entirely obvious this is a wallet that is designed to look exactly like some buttered toast. Why would anyone do that? Well like most of the most fantastic inventions that have come to help mankind the inventors usually thought “..well….why not?” and if the Wright brothers hadn’t taken that approach to their own creations international travel might have been set back 20 or 30 years.

If you look at any wallet you find in a shop they’re the usual dull design made out of boring brown or black leather or fabric. They’re like tiny little clones of each other with nothing to set them apart from the crowd. That’s why finding the buttered toast wallet is such a great way to change up your day a bit. It can also help prevent one of the single most annoying time delays in trying to get out of your house on the way to work each day – not being able to find your wallet. That’s because your wallet will just blend in with every other nondescript item around it….but that’s not a problem you’ll have with your new toast wallet right? Because no matter when you might have left your toast wallet you’re going to be able to spot it. Unless of course it’s hidden underneath a pile of toast but let’s face facts that’s not very likely is it?

The actual wallet itself is pretty standard with the entire wallet being made from a fake leather finish just because it’s really, really tough to get real leather to look exactly like some buttered toast. The stitching on this wallet is pretty subtle and blends into the background neatly so there’s no stitching across the actual toast pattern itself. It does also feature a lump of fake melting butter on the exterior and to be honest we’re sure plenty people have accidentally picked up this wallet, in a pre-coffee sleep state, and taken a nibble out of it. This was, of course, before they realized that it might look incredibly tasty but it definitely lacks the same flavor as some nice toast made from doorstep bread with real butter on it – none of that low-fat, low-salt nonsense.

Inside the toast wallet you’ll find a tan colored fabric lining with 9 separate card compartments so you’ll have plenty of room for all your banking cards, credit cards and even room for a store card or three. There’s also a double-layer bill area so you’ll have plenty of space to carry your cash around comfortably too. What separates this wallet from any other wallet you can find aren’t the internal features – it’s all about the outside. How many times in your life are you going to have the chance to buy a wallet that looks exactly like toast?

Basically if you’re looking for wallets that are wacky or weird then the toast wallet deserves a place in your heart, in your jacket pocket or just on your kitchen table – right beside your coffee.

It’s interesting to see tweets about toast in the morning here in the US, but around 2:00pm you start getting a lot from Australia – and they are loaded with Vegemite. I’m not a fan of it myself, but to each his own. It’s crazy to see how many people actually go to Twitter and type in the words: “I’m eating toast!”

But my answer has always been the same. Quite simply, I love toast. Now it seems I’m not wrong.

The Benefits of Toast

Firstly consider toast’s versatility. It tastes great with hundreds of spreads and foods, it can be used in almost any meal and is pretty much a meal in its own right – toast is the way that many people start the day.

Cheese, jam, marmite, peanut butter and much more – there are hundreds of ways to enjoy toast that suit a wide range of situations.

One of the main reasons I love toast is that it is easy to cook. No messy pans, complex recipes and the like. Toaster, bread, electricity. Ok maybe complex if you had to invent and make all those things yourself but thankfully someone has already done that for us, all we need to do is combine the 3!

It’s cheap too. Bread is very cheap and available from almost every newsagent, petrol station and supermarket in the world for very, very little. Margarine doesn’t cost much and most toasters are available for next to nothing as well – and last for years and years.

Toast as a Super Food

Well it may not cure cancer, make us immune to swine flu, get world peace, win a world series or any of the other ludicrous claims that those trying to sell me ‘super foods’ claim theirs will, but I don’t believe them either.

The fact is that toast IS healthy. Or can be if you don’t cover it in too much jelly, which I admit I may do from time to time.

White bread toast is unhealthy (no matter how good it tastes) because of how white bread is made. But when you start looking at brown bread, wholemeal bread etc you begin to realize that actually, toast really does have some health benefits.

The fact is that as part of a balanced diet toast can really work at helping bring down cholesterol, fight diabetes and much more. Now I am no scientist but that seems to be all the qualification I need to dress it up in a red cape and underwear and start flying it around the city calling it ‘super food’.

Yes it may get some odd looks but it should get the point across!

I love toast because it tastes great. I love toast because it is so versatile. I love toast because it is cheap. I love toast because it can be so healthy (when done right).

In other words, I love toast. Do you?

This transparent toaster allows you to see the bread while it is toasting so you’re never surprised by toast that comes out too dark. This idea is based on a transparent heating glass technology. Although the glass does not currently get hot enough to toast bread, the vendor explained with some R&D this application may be possible. The concept was developed by the Inventables Concept Studio.
